Punjab’s Chief Minister, Maryam Nawaz Sharif, has launched the second phase of the Honhar Scholarship Programme, which will cover the full educational expenses for 30,000 students annually for the next four years. This initiative is aimed at easing the financial burden on deserving students and enabling them to pursue higher education.

Key Highlights of the Scholarship Programme


Under the Phase-II expansion, the government will cover all educational costs for students from 65 universities, 12 medical and dental colleges, and 359 other educational institutions in Punjab. The scholarship is available for students across 68 fields of study, ensuring that various academic disciplines are represented.

In order to ensure fairness, applications for the Honhar Scholarship are submitted and processed through an online portal. The evaluation process involves scrutiny at both the institutional and provincial levels, overseen by a steering committee headed by Senior Provincial Minister Marriyum Aurangzeb.

Scholarship Distribution

The first phase of the scholarship programme saw 2,473 students awarded scholarships. In Phase-II, 2,570 students from the Rawalpindi division will receive the scholarship. Additionally, 1,886 students from the University of Engineering and Technology (UET) Lahore were granted scholarships, with 1,660 going to students from public universities and 637 for those in private universities.
